Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatic plants and oils have been used for thousands of years as incense, perfumes and cosmetics, as well as for culinary and medicinal purposes. Aromatherapy as we know it today began in France in 1928 by a chemist who became interested in the therapeutic properties of the essential oils of plants.

An Aromatherapy massage is a relaxing, calming body massage using specific oils selected and blended by the Therapist to suit the condition and needs of the client. The selected essential oils are blended with a base oil - usually Sweet Almond or Grapeseed oil and gently applied to the whole body using soothing, relaxing massage movements. This ensures that the essential oils are effectively absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream.

What will happen on my first visit?

Before any treatment can begin, the Therapist will consult with the client to build a profile of lifestyle and medical history. A full consultation takes place on the first visit and generally takes 15 to 20 minutes. Aromatherapy Massage takes between an hour to an hour and 30 minutes to perform and it is advisable for the client to allow a further 5 to 10 minutes rest time at the end of the treatment.

Aromatherapy Massage is a safe and effective treatment and can be performed whenever required.

Who/What is it suitable for?

Aromatherapy Massage is suitable for anyone of any age. It is a gentle and relaxing treatment to have during pregnancy, and although certain oils must be avoided, a great many oils are available that are safe and effective. It is a deeply relaxing treatment, helping to sooth tired, aching muscles and nerves and can help to disperse tension and stress. Aromatherapy Massage can be effective at alleviating the symptoms of PMT, migraines and headaches by encouraging the body to gently rebalance itself. Aromatherapy Massage can also help to improve the condition of the skin and can help to give the immune system a boost in times of stress. It also promotes a relaxed and refreshed state of mind.
