An Ancient Remedy for Hayfever

An Ancient Answer to Hayfever

A gentle and ancient native American remedy has been found to of help for hayfever sufferers.

The most common cause of hayfever in England is grass and flower pollen. The months of May to July are particularly bad for most sufferers. Unfortunately this also coincides with exam months and recent studies have proved this to be a disadvantage to some students, with even suggestions for exams to be moved to later in the year.

For others it becomes a problem at work. There are a number of medications available to ease the symptoms, but some have their own side effects and others are not suitable for everyone.

An alternative is to try Thermal Auricular Therapy, better known as 'ear candling'. This is a non invasive therapy based on the ancient cleansing rituals of the Hopi Native Americans. The 'candles' are actually hollow tubes consisting of woven cotton coated in 100% beeswax. Sage is included for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, camomile to sooth and St John's Wort to balance. Gentle heat and vapours circulate thorough the ear and sinuses equalising the pressure, strengthening the immune system and breaking down congestion naturally.

There has been no real research on the benefits of ear candling for hay fever, but many people have found it helpful. Perhaps clearing congestion in the ears and sinuses results in a more efficient ability to deal with pollen, or the stimulation of the immune system may enable the body to react in a more balanced manner. Whatever it is, the treatment is safe and free of side effects, as long as a qualified therapist performs it and you are considered safe to have the treatment in the first place. Add to that the peaceful feeling the treatment induces and it is certainly worth a try.
